Isla del Mar
Isla del Mar is the largest of four volcanic
islands situated in the Mar de Menor, a 20 by 10 mile lagoon protected
from the open sea by the sand strip of La Manga.
The Island is a nature reserve with 220
acres of gentle hilly land. The highest of its four peaks rises
to 330 feet above sea level with spectacular panoramic views. The
coast offers numerous small beaches and excellent conditions for
swimming and diving in the clear waters or exploring the other islands
using one of the boats.
The accommodation is in two buildings:
The old Watchtower, which was rebuilt in the 1950’s by the
late Duke of Torres to create a ‘folly’ with designs
of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
The cottage near the main ‘club’ house which houses
the main living room and dining room area.
The island is self-supporting in respect
of solar-powered electricity and running water and has always been
maintained to protect nature by the same owner-family. This is a
peaceful, unspoiled retreat where all you need is your swimsuit
and your toothbrush.
