Plantation House
Recently featured in Architectural Digest, Plantation House offers unparalleled, 270-degree views from its high perch on Mustique's southern hillside. It was designed by Arne Hasselqvist who designed a number of villas on the island and was later refurbished by the designer Emma Burns from Colefax & Fowler. The house was built 35 years ago and the recent refurbishment took 5 years. Designed after the colonial style plantations in South Carolina as opposed to the Caribbean gingerbread style houses, this impressive villa has many classical qualities.
The owner, an art historian, had strong ideas about the refurbishment with the principal themes being symmetry, scale and proportion. The entrance hall opens onto a lovely inner courtyard and all the rooms are spacious and uncluttered. Decorated in cool, Swedish style, the house features painted wooden ceilings and floors, classic fabrics and pieces of elegant furniture.
The Entertainment Room, close to the entrance hall, is a relaxing entertainment suite where friends and family can enjoy their favourite movies, or it can double up as a playroom for children with a huge box of toys. There is a separate private Guest Cottage which has 2 bedrooms with bathrooms and dressing rooms en suite; ideal for a couple who would like to have their children next door to them or for a nanny and children. It even has its own little kitchenette.
The outside area is very impressive with lovely large terraces, amazing views and an elegant infinity pool. The adjacent dining terrace is situated overlooking the southern coast of Mustique.
