Plantation House
The charming and elegant English owner of this house kindly invited us stay overnight with her and we just loved this gracious, traditional colonial style Great House. You step back in time to beautiful furniture against hand painted and decorated walls. Once the residence of the American Ambassador, it was extended by Oliver Messel to create a very spacious reception/living area. There is masses of comfy seating and elegant dining both inside and out on the prettiest coral stone-covered patio where one is cooled by overhead fans and encouraged to sit back and enjoy being looked after by the friendly staff. The patio overlooks the walled garden filled with wonderful tropical trees and plants, the focal point of which is the swimming pool. This is a perfect size with stone steps into the shallow end and a bar that goes down the middle of these steps to help little children or older people in and out of the pool.
From the house you cross the drive to a secret gate opening directly onto one of the best beaches on the island. The clear, sheltered water is roped-off for safe swimming and is ideal for all water sports. Or you can stroll along and watch the sun go down from the bar terrace of the charming Cobblers Cove Hotel.
Four of the double, air-conditioned bedrooms are situated on the first floor, each with private bathrooms. A fifth bedroom and bathroom are located on the ground floor for easy access, perfect for wheel chair users. As well as the reception rooms, the ground floor has a TV room and Wi-Fi is available throughout. Children are welcome.
Plantation House prides itself on having staff who will make your holiday more special. Anderson, the Butler runs the house and also makes the best cocktails - his rum punches are legendary! Roslyn is an excellent Chef who can cater to any dietary requirement as well as children's meals. Sandra, the maid, can always lay her hands on anything you might need in the house, Junie, the laundress will do all your personal laundry and Rico, the gardener, looks after the garden with a big smile on his face. Pearson is the night watchman who patrols the house from dusk until dawn.
